How we rank
For each certification we search Adzuna job ads for its main role in the country (for example, project manager for PMP), count the ads whose text names the certification, and divide by all ads for that role. Counts are from October 2026. Shares from fewer than 50 ads are not published. Each certification is measured within its own role, so the share shows how often employers in that job ask for it, not how many jobs exist overall.
How should you compare certification demand by country?
To read certification demand by country, start with one country: compare its ranks first, then check each share against the ads behind it. The figures come from Adzuna, a job-ad search site with a separate version in each of the ten countries. The "Top three in each country" table on this page lists each country's leading certifications.
This guide uses three terms. A share is the percentage of one job's ads that name a certification. Its base, the role total, is the number of ads whose title matches that job's search title in one country in October 2026. A certification's main role is the job it is ranked in, such as project manager for the PMP (Project Management Professional, a certification from the Project Management Institute, PMI). Shares from two countries are separate figures on separate bases, not a direct comparison.
Why can one country's top rows come from different jobs?
Each certification is ranked in its own main role, so two rows next to each other in a country's ranking can rest on separate job totals.
In the US, OSCP (OffSec Certified Professional, a penetration-testing certification) appears in 73% of 217 ads titled penetration tester, for jobs where people are paid to break into systems to find weak spots. The PMP is counted against the 59,273 US ads titled project manager. Both are Adzuna counts for October 2026, each on its own base.
Why do shares from two countries rest on different bases?
Each country's base comes from its own Adzuna site and its own search title, as the project-manager ad counts show.
| Country | Title we search | Project-manager ads |
|---|---|---|
| United States | project manager | 59,273 |
| United Kingdom | project manager | 6,205 |
| India | project manager | 2,413 |
| Brazil | gerente de projetos | 281 |
| Mexico | gerente de proyectos | 60 (small sample, read with care) |
| Spain | jefe de proyecto | 127 (small sample, read with care) |
| France | chef de projet | 10,557 |
| Germany | projektmanager | 3,738 |
| Italy | project manager | 976 |
| Poland | kierownik projektu | 310 |
A title count also mixes industries: project manager covers construction and IT project managers alike. Raw counts are not built on the same title coverage either, so our pages show each country's share next to its own ad count, not raw counts alone.
Which language do the searches use?
We search English job titles in the US, the UK and India, and one title per role in the other seven countries. For project manager, six of them use a local title, such as chef de projet in France; Italy uses project manager, because Italian project-manager ads keep the English title. The title scrum master (a team-coaching role in software projects) is searched in English in all ten countries.
The certification side does not change by country. Each certification has one search phrase, the text we look for in an ad: an English wording or a code such as pmp, itil (for the ITIL IT-service certification) or comptia security (for CompTIA Security+). The same phrase runs in every country where it is counted. A code reads the same in any language; a wording such as scrum master certification does not, so an ad that writes the name in another language is missed.
Two gaps follow; both make counts in those seven countries lower bounds, meaning the real number of ads naming a certification is at least what we show:
- One title per role: German ads also use "Projektleiter" and French ads use "responsable de projet"; ads with those titles are not in our totals.
- Ads in a second language count only when their title matches the title we search, so a Berlin ad titled "Project Manager" is not counted under
projektmanager. For project manager, this gap applies to the six countries with a local title, not Italy.
When is a country's row too small to read?
A country's row is too small to read without a warning when its role total is under 200 ads:
- Under 50 ads for a role in a country: no share is published.
- 50 to 199 ads: the small-sample flag is set. The share is published with a star (*), should be read as a rough signal and is ranked after rows built on 200 ads or more.
- In the heat maps (grids that shade each certification's share by country), a cell is blank when its role has fewer than 200 ads in that country, and a share under 1 in 100 shows as a count of ads.
A country gets a ranking only when at least five of its certifications have a solid sample: 200 ads or more, at least one ad naming the certification, no flag. Its top certification must also appear in at least 1 in 100 of its job's ads. Otherwise it shows "Data still building" in place of its top three. That label means the data is too thin for a ranking in October 2026; it is not a finding about demand in that country.
How does Adzuna's coverage differ by country?
Each country's figures come from that country's Adzuna site, and coverage differs between the sites. Our methodology notes that coverage is broadest where the totals are largest, in the US, and that small totals swing more from month to month.
Three limits apply in every country:
- Each count is one snapshot: the ads live on Adzuna on the one day we ran the query, labeled October 2026, not every ad posted that month and not a count of every job that exists.
- Duplicates stay in. The same job can appear twice, reposted or posted by both the employer and an agency. Duplicates raise the role total and the certification count together, so they distort shares less than raw counts.
- A mention is not a requirement. The phrase counts any mention, including "PMP not required" or an offer to pay for the exam.
How does one certification read across the ten countries?
The PMP's main role is project manager in every country. Each row is the share of that country's project-manager ads that contain pmp, next to its ad count (Adzuna, October 2026). Each row stands on its own base.
| Country | Share of project-manager ads naming the PMP | Project-manager ads | Sample note |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | 24% | 59,273 | |
| United Kingdom | 6.9% | 6,205 | |
| India | 24% | 2,413 | |
| Brazil | 35% | 281 | |
| Mexico | 12% | 60 | small sample, read with care |
| Spain | 7% | 127 | small sample, read with care |
| France | 1.1% | 10,557 | |

Our PMP page covers the certification itself.
What should you do first?
Open the ranking for the country where you will apply and compare ranks inside it. For the US and the UK, that is our US ranking by job or UK ranking by job, which list each job's certifications separately. For the other eight countries, find the country's row in the "Top three in each country" table. If it reads Data still building, open the role page for your job, or use the PMP table on this page as a worked example for project managers.
Read a share as a hint about which ads to open and read, not as proof that a certification is worth buying. Then:
- Note the job behind each row you care about and check its ad count.
- For one certification across countries, open its certificate page. Some certifications require work experience before you can hold them; each certificate page covers the vendor's own rules.
- Look up the exact search phrase in our methodology.
If you have no target job yet, pick a field from this table, open its role page and see which certifications its ads name in your country.
| Field | Role page | Certificate pages (each gives the full name) |

| Data | Data analyst | Google Data Analytics |
What we did not check
- Salaries: Adzuna's permission does not cover salary data, and this page uses none.
- Hiring outcomes: whether people who hold a certification got the jobs.
- Full-name spellings: an ad that writes "Project Management Professional" without
pmpis missed when we search the short form. - Job boards outside Adzuna: we did not search other boards or employer sites.
- Change over time: one day's snapshot, labeled October 2026, shows no trend.

Questions people ask
Which certifications are in demand in each country?
Each country with enough data has its own ranking, and each certification is ranked within its own main job. The PMP (Project Management Professional, a certification from the Project Management Institute, PMI) shows how this works. In October 2026 job ads counted on Adzuna, a job-ad search site, it appeared in 24% of 59,273 US project-manager ads. In India it appeared in 24% of 2,413 project-manager ads. Each share is out of its own country's ad count, so read it against the ranks in that country.
Can you compare certification demand by country with these shares?
Only as separate figures, each read against its own ad count. A share is the percentage of one job's ads in one country that name a certification, and Adzuna, a job-ad search site, has one site per country. For October 2026, its French site returned 10,557 ads titled chef de projet, our project-manager search in France. Its Polish site returned 310 ads titled kierownik projektu. Compare ranks inside one country, and treat another country's share as a separate figure on a separate base.
What does "Data still building" mean in the country ranking?
It means the country does not yet pass our minimum-data rule for a ranking. For Adzuna job-ad data (Adzuna is a job-ad search site), the rule needs at least five certifications with a solid sample in that country. A solid sample is a role total of 200 ads or more, at least one ad naming the certification and no small-sample flag. The country's top certification must also appear in at least 1 in 100 of its job's ads. The rule was applied to the October 2026 data, and shares from fewer than 50 ads are not published at all.
Why are counts outside English-speaking countries a lower bound?
Because two search choices leave out ads there. In October 2026 Adzuna job-ad data (Adzuna is a job-ad search site), we search one title per role in each country, a local one such as projektmanager in Germany. Title variants are missed, and so are ads titled in a second language. Each certification is also searched with one English phrase or code. The real number of ads naming a certification in Brazil, Mexico, Spain, France, Germany, Italy and Poland is at least the count we show.
Does a job ad that names a certification require it?
A mention is not a requirement. Our search counts any mention of the phrase, so an ad that says PMP (a project-management certification) is not required, or offers to pay for an exam, is counted too. In October 2026 Adzuna job-ad data (Adzuna is a job-ad search site), a share shows how often ads for one job in one country name a certification. It does not show how often employers require it.
