SnowPro Core certification: cost, exam and who should take it
2 of 6,094 data analyst job ads in the United States name the SnowPro Core (Adzuna, October 2026)
The SnowPro Core certification, Snowflake's entry exam for its cloud data platform, is worth its $175 fee if you want data-engineer jobs that run on Snowflake (data engineers move and prepare data). In October 2026, the word SnowPro appeared in 60 of the 21,791 US data-engineer ads on Adzuna, a job-ad search site. Beginners: learn SQL, the database query language, first.
The SnowPro Core certification (exam code COF-C03) is the foundation exam of SnowPro, Snowflake's certification program. Snowflake runs a data platform in the cloud: companies load their data into it, store it and query it, much as they would in a data warehouse (a database built for analysis and reporting). Core has no prerequisites, meaning nothing you must pass first.
Who should take it, by situation:
- You build data pipelines on Snowflake, or ads for your target job name Snowflake: take Core now. Snowflake also requires it before SnowPro Advanced: Data Engineer, its higher-level exam for data engineers.
- You are a data analyst (someone who turns data into reports and answers) on a Snowflake team: Core covers the Snowflake platform itself. If ads for your target job name a reporting tool instead, the PL-300 exam for Power BI, Microsoft's reporting tool, or a Tableau certification (Tableau is a charting tool) may fit the job better.
- You are new to data: learn SQL first and, if you can, get hands-on time in Snowflake before you pay. The exam is written for people who already use the platform.
- You have no target job yet: pick one title on our data and analytics field page, open ten ads for it and note whether they name Snowflake before you spend $175. If none do, look at the other certificates on that field page first.

Is the SnowPro Core certification worth it?
For a data engineer whose team runs on Snowflake, yes: $175 buys proof, checked by an exam, that you know the platform the team already uses. For a job on another platform, it proves skill in a tool the employer may not use.
SnowPro has three levels of certification. Core is the entry exam. Specialty exams each cover one topic, such as generative AI (software that writes text or images). Advanced exams are the higher level: each is named after a job role, such as data engineer, and the Advanced exam pages we read require Core first. Core is also the cheapest: Specialty exams cost $225 and Advanced exams $375 per attempt (Snowflake certifications page, October 7, 2026).
Our view: a vendor certification, meaning an exam set by the company that makes the product, counts where the product is used.
We search Adzuna for ads that contain the word SnowPro together with the job title data engineer or data analyst. Ads that mention only "Snowflake certification" do not match, so each count on this page is a minimum for ads that name any SnowPro exam in the ad text Adzuna holds. Because the word also matches Specialty and Advanced exams, it is not a count of ads that ask for Core. How we count ads.
Is Snowflake certification recognized by employers?
Job ads are one visible sign of employer interest, and we count them for two job titles: data engineer and data analyst. The US data-engineer count is in the introduction above.
In the UK, SnowPro turned up in 10 of the 1,451 data-engineer ads on Adzuna in October 2026. In India, it appeared in 18 of the 3,542 data-engineer ads the same month.
For US data analysts, the word appeared in 2 of the 6,094 ads in October 2026 (Adzuna; a small sample, read with care).
Among data analysts outside the US, it appeared in none of the 741 UK ads, none of the 1,054 ads in India and none of the 859 ads in France. These are small samples, so read them with care: a zero means the word was absent from those ads, not that no employer wants Snowflake skills.
Our reading: the Core exam domains, listed in the next section, include loading data into Snowflake and querying it, which is the pipeline work of a data engineer.
Is Snowflake certification worth it, according to Reddit?
We did not find enough Reddit posts on SnowPro exams to report on, so this page quotes none and relies on Snowflake's published rules and our job-ad counts.
What is on the SnowPro Core exam (COF-C03)?
The COF-C03 exam has 100 questions in 115 minutes. Each question is multiple choice (one right answer) or multiple select (more than one right answer). The exam is proctored, meaning a supervisor watches you, online or at a test center, and Snowflake delivers it through Pearson VUE, an exam-delivery company. You can take it in English, Japanese, Korean, French or Spanish.
Snowflake splits the exam into five domains, or topic areas. In plain words, features and architecture means how the platform is built and what it can do. Account management and data governance cover running your company's Snowflake account and the rules on who can see and change data. Loading and unloading mean moving data into and out of Snowflake, and connectivity is how other tools connect to it. Performance optimization and transformation mean making queries run faster and reshaping data for use. Data collaboration is sharing data with other Snowflake accounts.
SnowPro Core (COF-C03) exam domains and their weights:
| SnowPro Core (COF-C03) domain | Weight |
|---|---|
| Snowflake AI Data Cloud Features & Architecture | 31% |
| Account Management and Data Governance | 20% |
| Data Loading, Unloading, and Connectivity | 18% |
| Performance Optimization, Querying, and Transformation | 21% |
| Data Collaboration | 10% |

How difficult is Snowflake certification at the Core level?
The only official signals about the difficulty of the SnowPro Core exam are the passing score and the candidate profile; Snowflake publishes no pass rate on the pages we read. To pass, you need 750 on a scaled score of 0 to 1,000, a raw result converted to a fixed scale, so 750 is not a count of correct answers.
Some questions do not count. Snowflake says exams "may include unscored items," used to gather statistics for future exams; they are not labeled on the exam, and extra time is built in for them.
The candidate profile is Snowflake's description of who the exam is written for: "6 or more months of experience using Snowflake." Core has no prerequisites, so this describes the typical candidate and is not a rule. Our reading: Snowflake expects candidates who have used the platform, not only read about it.
If you live in a country where English is not the standard language of business, education and daily life, and no translated version of the exam is available, you can ask for 30 minutes of extra time. Snowflake must approve the request before you register.
A failed attempt costs a week and the full fee. You wait seven days before the next try, and each further failed attempt brings another seven-day wait. The policy says you are "allowed to retake a given Snowflake exam four times" in a 12-month period, and it adds: "There are no free retakes or discounts on exam retakes."

How long does it take to get Snowflake certified?
It depends on how much you have already used Snowflake: the company gives no study-time figure, and its candidate profile (see the difficulty section above) describes the typical candidate; it is not a requirement. For preparation, the Core page recommends a mix of hands-on experience, instructor-led training (a live class with a trainer), on-demand courses and self-study. It names three resources: the instructor-led Snowflake Fundamentals course, the paid SnowPro Core Certification On-Demand Preparation Course and the SnowPro Practice Exam: Core, a practice test. We did not check their prices.
On exam day, you have 115 minutes and get a score report at the end. After a pass, Accredible, the service that issues Snowflake's digital badges (online proof of the certification), emails you within five business days.

How much does Snowflake certification cost, from SnowPro Core up?
The SnowPro Core certification cost is $175 per attempt, or $140 for exams delivered in India, where Snowflake gives a 20% regional discount. The certification expires two years after you earn it, so your total depends on how many attempts you need and how you renew.
SnowPro Core certification cost by route, exam fees only (training, practice exams and any taxes are not included):
| Route | What the total covers | How the total is made | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pass on the first try, renew once by passing Core again | first certification and one renewal | $175 exam + $175 renewal exam | $350 |
| Fail once, then pass, renew once by passing Core again | first certification and one renewal | 2 attempts at $175 + $175 renewal exam | $525 |
| Pass Core, then SnowPro Advanced: Data Engineer before Core expires | Core and one Advanced certification; a higher-level pass counts as a renewal (see the renewal section below) | $175 + $375 | $550 |
| India: pass on the first try, renew once by passing Core again | first certification and one renewal | $140 exam + $140 renewal exam | $280 |
Source: Snowflake SnowPro Core page, certifications page and SnowPro Program Policies, October 7, 2026. Sums: CertWorthIt.
The Advanced route suits people who already have the experience Snowflake recommends for that exam (see the data-engineer section below). Because Core expires two years after it is awarded, someone who passes Core before gaining that experience may reach Core's expiration date first. Also, a failed Advanced attempt costs another $375. Instructor-led renewal courses have no price on the pages we read, so they are not in the table.

How does SnowPro renewal work?
"All Snowflake Certifications expire two (2) years after it is awarded," Snowflake's policy page says. You renew before that date through Continuing Education (CE), Snowflake's renewal program, in one of two ways:
- Earn a certification at the same level or a higher one, such as an Advanced exam. This includes passing the full Core exam again, which you can do from six months before your expiration date.
- Complete one eligible Snowflake instructor-led training course, a live class with a trainer. The Core page lists courses such as Administering Snowflake (running a Snowflake account), Snowflake Data Engineer and Snowflake Architect (designing how a Snowflake setup is built).
The policy page does not say whether a renewal's new two years start on the day you pass or on the old expiration date.
A separate rule covers holding several certifications: "Earning a second credential at the same level will extend all active credentials you hold at that level and below (including Core and any Specialty certifications)," the policy page says. A credential here means a certification. In plain words, passing a second exam at the level you already hold extends your active certifications at that level and the levels below it. If you let a certification expire, you leave the CE program and must start again with SnowPro Core or a SnowPro Specialty certification.
Which Snowflake certification is best for a data engineer?
Core first, then the Advanced Data Engineer exam (DEA-C02). For that exam, Snowflake recommends "2 or more years of hands-on experience as a Data Engineer in a production environment," meaning the live systems a business runs on. Each Advanced exam page we read lists "SnowPro Core Certified" as its prerequisite.
The six Advanced exam pages we read (Administrator, Architect, Data Analyst, Data Engineer, Data Scientist and MLOps Engineer) give the same format and price: 65 questions in 115 minutes for $375, or $300 in India.
SnowPro Advanced and Specialty certifications by level, with Snowflake's recommended experience. An empty cell means we have no verified figure:
| Level | Certification | Exam code | Role or topic in plain words | Recommended experience or status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Advanced | Data Engineer | DEA-C02 | builds pipelines that move and prepare data | 2+ years in production |
| Advanced | Data Analyst | DAA-C01 | turns data into reports and answers | 1+ year with Snowflake as a data analyst in production |
| Advanced | Architect | ARA-C01 | designs how a Snowflake setup is built | 2+ years |
| Advanced | Administrator | ADA-C02 | runs and secures a Snowflake account | 2+ years |
| Advanced | MLOps Engineer | MLA-C01 | runs machine-learning models (software that learns from data) in live systems | |
| Advanced | Data Scientist | DSA-C03 | builds statistical and machine-learning models | retiring November 1, 2026 |
| Advanced | Security Engineer | SEA-C01 | protects data and access | |
| Specialty | Gen AI | GES-C02 | generative AI, software that writes text or images | |
| Specialty | Native Apps | NAS-C02 | apps built to run inside Snowflake | no prerequisite |
| Specialty | Snowpark | SPS-C01 | Snowflake's tools for running code, such as Python (a programming language), inside the platform | retiring November 1, 2026 |
Source: Snowflake certifications page and individual exam pages, October 7, 2026.
The Native Apps and Snowpark pages list no prerequisite and give 55 questions in 85 minutes. Snowflake's certifications page marks two exams as "Retiring November 1, 2026": SnowPro Advanced: Data Scientist and SnowPro Specialty: Snowpark. The page does not say whether that is the last day you can take the exam or the day the certification stops being valid, and we did not find what happens to people who already hold either one. Check the exam page before you book or study.
For a data analyst, the matching step after Core is SnowPro Advanced: Data Analyst (DAA-C01). It also requires Core, and Snowflake recommends one or more years of hands-on work with Snowflake as a data analyst.

What is the Snowflake certification salary for SnowPro Core holders?
We report no Snowflake certification salary figure for SnowPro Core, because we found no source that measures what the certification adds to pay. Snowflake publishes none on the certification pages we read, and our Adzuna counts record whether an ad mentions SnowPro, not what the job pays.
Pay depends on the job, the level and the country. Our data-engineer page and data-analyst page cover those roles. Our view: pay figures belong with the job and its level, not with the exam.
How does SnowPro Core compare with Databricks and other data certifications?
Match the exam to the platform named in ads for your target job: each vendor's exam proves its own tool. Databricks, a rival data platform, runs its own certification exams, and our Databricks page covers that program.
If the analyst ads you read ask for reporting tools instead of a data platform, look at Microsoft Excel skills, Microsoft's PL-300 exam for Power BI or Tableau. The Google Advanced Data Analytics Certificate and the Google Business Intelligence Certificate (business intelligence means reports and dashboards for decisions) are online course certificates.

Questions people ask
Is Snowflake certification worth it?
It is worth it if you are aiming for data-engineer jobs that run on Snowflake, a cloud platform where companies store and query their data. Data engineers build the pipelines that move and prepare that data. The entry exam, SnowPro Core, costs $175 per attempt and stays valid for two years. If you are new to data, learn SQL, the language used to query databases, before you pay for the exam.
What is the SnowPro Core certification?
SnowPro Core is the foundation exam in SnowPro, the certification program of Snowflake, a cloud data platform. The current version, exam code COF-C03, has 100 multiple-choice and multiple-select questions (some have more than one right answer) in 115 minutes. It is proctored, meaning a supervisor watches you online or at a test center, and it is delivered by Pearson VUE, an exam-delivery company. There are no prerequisites, meaning nothing you must pass first.
How much does it cost to get SnowPro Core certified?
Snowflake certification starts at $175 per attempt. Snowflake, a company whose cloud platform stores and queries business data, runs a certification program called SnowPro, and its entry exam, SnowPro Core, costs $175, or $140 for exams delivered in India, with no free retakes (Snowflake, October 7, 2026). The certification expires after two years. Passing on the first try and renewing once by passing Core again comes to $350 in exam fees: $175 plus $175. Snowflake's renewal rules also accept a higher-level Snowflake certification, such as an Advanced exam, or one eligible instructor-led course (a live class with a trainer).
How hard is Snowflake certification?
SnowPro Core is the entry exam of Snowflake, a cloud service for storing and querying data. Snowflake publishes no pass rate, so the official signals are the passing score and the candidate profile. You need 750 on a scaled score of 0 to 1,000 (a raw result converted to a fixed scale) to pass the COF-C03 exam, which has 100 questions in 115 minutes. It may include unscored trial questions, which do not count toward your score. Snowflake writes the exam for people who have used the platform themselves. After a failed attempt, you wait seven days and pay the full exam fee again.
How long does it take to get Snowflake certified?
Snowflake, a data platform that runs in the cloud, gives no study-time figure for SnowPro Core, the entry exam of its SnowPro certification program. It describes the typical candidate as someone with six or more months of Snowflake use; this is a description, not a requirement. The exam itself takes 115 minutes, and you get a score report at the end. A pass brings an email from Accredible, the service that issues Snowflake's digital badges (online proof of the certification), within five business days.
Do employers recognize Snowflake certification?
SnowPro is the certification program of Snowflake, a cloud data platform, and job ads are one place to look for it. On Adzuna, a job-ad search site, the word SnowPro appeared in 60 of the 21,791 US data-engineer ads in October 2026. The same month, it appeared in 2 of the 6,094 US data-analyst ads (a small sample, read with care). Data engineers build the pipelines that move and prepare data; data analysts turn data into reports and answers.
What is the SnowPro Core salary?
We have no SnowPro Core salary figure that we can back with a source. SnowPro Core is the entry exam of Snowflake, a company that runs a data platform in the cloud. Snowflake publishes no pay figure on its certification pages, and our counts from Adzuna, a job-ad search site, record whether an ad mentions SnowPro, not what the job pays. Our data-engineer page and data-analyst page cover those roles.
Which Snowflake certification is best for a data engineer?
Start with SnowPro Core, the entry exam of Snowflake, a cloud data platform. Then take SnowPro Advanced: Data Engineer (exam DEA-C02), a higher-level exam, once you have the experience Snowflake recommends. That is two or more years as a data engineer (someone who builds the pipelines that move and prepare data) in a production environment, meaning the live systems a business runs on. The advanced exam lists SnowPro Core as a prerequisite, something you must hold first. It has 65 questions in 115 minutes and costs $375 per attempt, or $300 in India (Snowflake, October 7, 2026).
