Is eJPT worth it for a beginner in 2026?
1% of penetration tester job ads in the United States name the eJPT (3 of 217, Adzuna, October 2026)
The answer to "Is eJPT worth it?" is yes as a lower-priced first hands-on exam (about $349 a year with training), less so as a job-ad credential. The eJPT, from the training firm INE, appeared in 3 of the 217 US penetration-tester ads on Adzuna, a job-ad search site, in October 2026. The OSCP, OffSec's 24-hour hands-on exam, appeared in 158.
A penetration tester is paid to break into an organization's systems with permission and report the weak points. Verdict by situation:
- New to IT: learn networking first. CompTIA Security+, an exam on security basics, costs $439 and has no required prerequisite.
- You want a first hands-on hacking exam and can pay about $349: the eJPT is a sound first target, as long as you treat it as a checkpoint.
- You want to be hired as a penetration tester: the OSCP, at $1,699 for the standalone exam (OffSec calls it OSCP+), is the certificate our US ad count shows employers naming. Treat it as a later goal, after the eJPT or similar practice.
- Your employer pays for INE: take it.
First step: see what to do first.
The eJPT certification (short for Junior Penetration Tester) is INE Security's entry-level practical exam in penetration testing. INE calls it "a hands-on, entry-level Red Team certification"; the red team is the side that plays the attacker. You take it online in a browser, with hands-on labs (practice machines you attack) and multiple-choice questions, and INE sets no formal prerequisite.

Is the eJPT certification worth it in 2026? What penetration-tester ads show
The eJPT is worth it as training more than as a hiring signal, judging by US job ads. In October 2026, we counted 217 US penetration-tester ads on Adzuna, and the eJPT was named in 3 of them.
In the same October 2026 Adzuna count of US penetration-tester ads, the OSCP (OffSec Certified Professional, a 24-hour hands-on exam with a written report) appeared in 158. The CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker, from EC-Council) appeared in 66; its knowledge exam is multiple choice, and EC-Council also lists a separate practical exam. We give the counts side by side so you can compare them yourself.
Our reading: the eJPT shows an employer that you have practiced. Our count cannot show whether it leads to interviews; it shows only whether an ad names a certificate. If penetration testing is the job you want, the OSCP is the certificate to plan for over time.
The UK sample is small, so read it with care. In October 2026, the eJPT appeared in none of the 58 UK penetration-tester ads on Adzuna.
For India, Adzuna gave us 44 penetration-tester ads in October 2026, too small a sample for an eJPT figure, so we show none.
eJPT jobs: which ads name the certification?
The ads that name the eJPT in our data are penetration-tester ads, because that is the only role we count it against. So we cannot say how ads for other security jobs treat it.
If you have no target job yet, two entry-level roles we track are security analyst and SOC analyst (staff in a security operations center who watch and sort alerts). Our security-analyst page and SOC-analyst page show which certificates and skills those ads name. They are a useful check before you spend money on a hacking exam.
How much does the eJPT cost? Exam voucher, subscription and discounts
Getting the eJPT costs $299 or $349 at INE's checkout, depending on the bundle, and the $299 route renews at a higher price unless you stop it. The $250 voucher (a prepaid code for one exam attempt) alone is not the full cost, because INE's eJPT page says you need "both an INE subscription and an exam voucher."
The eJPT voucher includes one free retake. A subscription is paid access to INE's training library. Checkout shows prices in US dollars.
eJPT certification cost from INE, as listed at checkout:
| Route | Price | What it includes | What happens next |
|---|---|---|---|
| eJPT voucher alone | $250 | One attempt and one free retake | A subscription is required too |
| Fundamentals, annual | $349 a year | One year of novice-level training and a free eJPT or ICCA voucher | Checkout text gives no further renewal terms |
| eJPT + 3 months of Fundamentals | $299 | The eJPT voucher and three months of novice-level training | Becomes Premium: $350 after 3 months, then $799 a year |
| Premium (INE's full-library plan), annual | $799 a year | INE's entire content library and a yearly INE certification voucher | Not needed for the eJPT |
Source: INE checkout (checkout.ine.com) and INE eJPT product page, read October 7, 2026. ICCA is another INE certification.
Simplest choice: Fundamentals for a year, which includes the voucher. Pick the $299 bundle only if you will cancel before its three months end; a calendar reminder helps.
The voucher on its own. At $250 it looks cheapest, but you still need a subscription. The annual subscriptions we read at checkout, Fundamentals and Premium, both include a voucher already, so buying the $250 voucher as well would pay for a second exam you may not need. Checkout also has a monthly billing option; we list the annual prices we read.
Fundamentals for a year. For $349 you get a year of INE's novice-level training and one free eJPT voucher. The eJPT then costs you $349, as long as you pass within that year and the plan does not renew. The checkout text we read gives no renewal terms for Fundamentals, so check the billing settings in your INE account after you buy.
The $299 bundle. It buys the eJPT voucher and three months of Fundamentals. The note under it at checkout reads: "Auto-upgrades to Premium for $350 after 3 months, then $799 annually from purchase date." INE's note does not say what period the $350 covers. Without a cancellation, year one costs $649 ($299 plus $350), then $799 is charged on each anniversary of the purchase date.
To pay only the $299, stop the renewal before the three months end. The checkout text we read does not say how to cancel, so check INE's billing terms before you buy. When the cancellation steps are unclear, choose Fundamentals.
We found no separate eJPT certification discount on the INE checkout or product page; the price differences come from these bundles.

What three years of the eJPT cost
The eJPT is valid for three years, and keeping it after that costs a renewal fee of $99 plus tax, unless you renew by passing the latest exam version (see renewal). Totals that run past year three therefore include the fee:
| Route | Charges | Total, keeping the eJPT past year three |
|---|---|---|
| Fundamentals for one year, then stop | $349 + $99 renewal fee | $448 plus tax |
| $299 bundle, renewal stopped within 3 months | $299 + $99 renewal fee | $398 plus tax |
| $299 bundle, not canceled | $299 + $350 + $799 + $799 + $99 renewal fee | $2,346 plus tax |
Source: INE checkout and INE certification renewal page, on the dates under Sources. Analysis: CertWorthIt. The not-canceled row counts $799 at the first and second anniversaries; a third $799 would fall due at the three-year mark unless the plan is stopped, and it is not counted here. Totals exclude any cost of earning CPE credits or a more advanced certificate.
The eJPT v2 cost is the same as the eJPT cost: INE sells one current version, described in the version section.
eJPT cost in India and Pakistan
INE's checkout showed US dollars only when we read it: $250 for the voucher, $299 for the bundle and $349 a year for Fundamentals. We read it from outside India and Pakistan, so if INE shows a local price to visitors there, we did not see it. Before you pay, check the currency on the final checkout screen and the $299 bundle's renewal terms.
What is on the eJPT exam? Format, questions and syllabus
The eJPT exam gives you 48 hours to answer 35 questions in a browser-based, hands-on exam, and you pass with 70% overall plus a minimum score in each exam section. Those figures come from INE's eJPTv2 launch blog of November 28, 2022; the current eJPT product page does not restate them.
A second INE blog, from March 2023, says the exam mixes multiple-choice questions and hands-on labs and is open book, so you can use your notes. INE does not say how the 35 questions split between the two kinds.
The eJPT certification syllabus has four domains, with these weights on INE's product page:
| Exam domain | Weight |
|---|---|
| Host and Network Penetration Testing | 35% |
| Assessment Methodologies | 25% |
| Host and Networking Auditing | 25% |
| Web Application Penetration Testing | 15% |
Source: INE eJPT product page, read October 7, 2026.
INE's product page says the eJPT is for people "with a basic understanding of networks, systems, and an interest in penetration testing." It sets no formal prerequisite. The exam is graded automatically, and INE says results arrive within hours, with a score report broken down by section.
eJPT vs eJPTv2: which version is current?
The newest version we found is the one INE launched as eJPTv2 on November 28, 2022. INE's product page and checkout now call it plain eJPT, and the INE pages we read show no newer version. The first version (v1) allowed 3 days and had 20 questions, according to INE's 2022 blog; it is retired, so a guide that describes a 72-hour exam is describing the old test.
How hard is the eJPT exam, and how do you pass it?
The eJPT is built for beginners, and you pass it by scoring 70% in total plus the minimum in each exam section, according to INE's 2022 launch blog. In the words of INE's product page, the exam is "designed for individuals with little to no cybersecurity experience." We found no pass rate on INE's pages, so we give none.
The passing rule is where beginners can slip. A weak section can fail you even when your total score passes. The blog does not say whether the exam sections match the four weighted domains, so prepare for all four.
To pass, plan around the dates. INE says regular vouchers expire 180 days after purchase; we did not find the validity of the voucher included with Fundamentals, so check it before you buy. If you fail, the included free retake must be completed within 14 days, and both attempts must be submitted before the voucher expires. Take the first attempt early enough to leave room for the retake.
eJPT exam walkthrough: what exam day involves
You will not find a walkthrough of real exam questions here; we do not publish questions or answers. INE's 2022 and 2023 blogs describe the day itself. You start online and have 48 hours in a browser-based exam that, in the 2022 blog's words, "mirrors real world junior penetration tasks." You answer 35 questions, and your notes are allowed. The exam is graded automatically, according to INE's product page, and the score report shows how you did in each section. After a failed attempt, you have 14 days for the free retake.
eJPT certification course: INE's training and other options
INE's own course for the exam is the Penetration Testing Student learning path: 72 hours 14 minutes of video, 92 hours 20 minutes of activities, 13 courses and 115 labs, by INE's count. It needs an INE subscription; the Fundamentals plan describes itself as "1 year of access to all novice-level training to prepare you for the eJPT and more."
Other companies, such as the online hacking-practice sites TryHackMe (PT1 exam) and Hack The Box (CPTS exam), sell beginner pentest training tied to their own exams; both exams are compared in the next section. Free capture-the-flag (CTF) sites exist too: puzzles where you hack a practice target to find a hidden code called a flag. We have not checked any of them against the eJPT syllabus, so we do not rank them.
Does the eJPT expire? Certification validity and renewal
Yes. The eJPT is valid for three years from the date INE awards it, according to the eJPT product page we checked on October 7, 2026. INE's renewal page lists three ways to keep it:
- Earn 36 CPE credits (continuing professional education credits). INE counts 45 minutes of completed INE training as one credit, and only credits earned since its renewal program started in December 2024 count.
- Earn a more advanced INE certification in the same career path; INE's Traditional Penetration Tester path runs from the eJPT to the eCPPT and then the eWPTX.
- Pass the latest version of the eJPT exam.
The renewal fee is $99 plus tax for each three-year period, and it does not include a subscription or a voucher. Renewing by passing the latest exam version carries no renewal fee. Renewal opens 18 months before the expiration date. An eJPT that has already expired can still be renewed within a 90-day grace period, for $199 plus tax, according to INE's renewal page.
eJPT salary: what the figures measure
We found no salary figure for eJPT holders from INE or from any source we could verify, so we give none. A salary quoted for "eJPT jobs" would describe a job title, not what the certificate adds.
What we can show is demand. In our October 2026 Adzuna count, the eJPT was named in 3 of the 217 US penetration-tester ads. Our security-analyst page and SOC-analyst page cover the entry-level roles beginners can aim for, by country.
eJPT salary in India
The same holds for India: no source we could verify, INE included, gives an eJPT salary figure there. The eJPT jobs section explains which ads we count.
eJPT vs other beginner pentest certificates: which fits you?
Pick the eJPT for a question-based first exam with no report in its listed format. Pick the PJPT or PNPT if you would rather attack an Active Directory network (Microsoft's system for managing users and computers on a company network) and write a report. Once INE's required subscription is counted, the eJPT ($349 a year with the voucher) is one of the cheaper hands-on options in the tables, next to $249 for TCM Security's PJPT with training.
The PJPT, PNPT, PT1, CPTS and OSCP pages all state a requirement to write a report; the eJPT's listed format has none. A report is the document a tester writes for the client, listing what they found and how to fix it.
eJPT vs other pentest certificates, as each vendor's page stated them when we read it:
| Certificate (vendor) | Price we read | Exam format |
|---|---|---|
| eJPT (INE) | $250 voucher plus a required subscription; $349 a year for Fundamentals with the voucher | 48 hours, 35 questions, browser-based (INE's 2022 blog) |
| PJPT, Practical Junior Penetration Tester (TCM Security) | $249 with training and one free retake | 2 days to attack an Active Directory network, then 2 days to write the report |
| PNPT, Practical Network Penetration Tester (TCM Security) | $499 with training and one free retake | 5 days to test, 2 days to write, then a live 15-minute debrief |
| PT1, Junior Penetration Tester (TryHackMe) | $349 in TryHackMe's own comparison table; local prices may differ | 48 hours, three sections: web application, network, Active Directory |
| CPTS, Certified Penetration Testing Specialist (Hack The Box) | $490 voucher; the full Penetration Tester path must be completed first | 10 days on an Active Directory network, including the report; no multiple choice |
| eWPT and eCPPT, INE's next pentest certificates (INE) | $450 each, plus a required subscription | Hands-on; exam length not stated on the pages we read |
| PenTest+ (CompTIA's penetration-testing exam) | $439 | Up to 90 multiple-choice and performance-based questions, 165 minutes |
| OSCP (OffSec) | $1,699 for the standalone exam (OffSec calls it OSCP+) | 24-hour proctored hands-on exam: three machines and an Active Directory set |
| CEH (EC-Council) | $950 online exam, plus a $100 application fee without official training | Knowledge exam: 125 multiple-choice questions, 4 hours; EC-Council also lists a 6-hour practical exam |

Report and expiry, from the same vendor pages:
| Certificate | Written report | Expires |
|---|---|---|
| eJPT | Not in the listed format | After 3 years |
| PJPT | Yes | No |
| PNPT | Yes | No, per TCM as of April 17, 2023 |
| PT1 | Yes, a case report per section | Not stated on the page we read |
| CPTS | Yes | Not stated on the pages we read |
| eWPT and eCPPT | Not stated on the pages we read | After 3 years |
| PenTest+ | Not in the listed format | After 3 years |
| OSCP | Yes | OSCP+ after 3 years; the traditional OSCP does not expire |
| CEH | Not in the listed format | After 3 years |
Source: the vendors' own pages (INE, TCM Security, TryHackMe and Hack The Box read October 7, 2026; CompTIA and OffSec October 3; EC-Council October 4), listed in full under Sources. A proctored exam is watched live by an exam supervisor; performance-based questions are tasks you carry out in a simulated system.
eJPT vs OSCP
The OSCP is the bigger step: $1,699 for the standalone exam (OffSec calls it OSCP+), 24 hours of hands-on work watched live by an OffSec proctor (exam supervisor), and a written report. Of the 217 US penetration-tester ads in our October 2026 Adzuna count, the OSCP appeared in 158 and the eJPT in 3. Read the eJPT as a practice step toward the OSCP; it does not replace the OSCP in those ads.
eJPT vs PJPT and PNPT
TCM Security's PJPT costs $249 with training and asks you to break into an Active Directory network in two days and write a professional report in two more; it does not expire. The eJPT costs $349 a year with INE's subscription, uses a question-based browser exam with no report in its listed format, and expires after three years.
The PNPT is TCM's professional-level exam: $499, five days of testing that include OSINT (open-source intelligence, information gathered from public sources), two days for the report and a live 15-minute debrief with TCM's assessors. TCM says that, as of April 17, 2023, the PNPT does not expire.
eJPT vs PT1
Both give you 48 hours (for the eJPT, the figure is from INE's 2022 blog). TryHackMe's PT1 splits the time across three scenarios (web application, network and Active Directory), and each ends in a case report. TryHackMe says the exam is evaluated with AI-driven review.
PT1 costs $349 in TryHackMe's own comparison table, which notes that local prices may differ. A PT1 purchase is valid for 12 months and includes one free retake, which you can start three days after starting your first attempt. The page we read does not say whether PT1 expires.
eJPT vs CPTS
Hack The Box's CPTS is a much longer commitment. You must finish 100% of its Penetration Tester job-role path (28 modules) before you can take the exam, then you get 10 days to test a real-world Active Directory network and write a report. The voucher costs $490, a second attempt is included if you start it within 14 days of getting feedback, and the pages we read do not say whether CPTS expires.
eJPT vs eWPT and eCPPT
These are INE's next steps after the eJPT. The eCPPT (Certified Professional Penetration Tester) and the eWPT (Web Application Penetration Tester) cost $450 each at INE's checkout, plus the same required subscription, and both are valid for three years. INE's pages do not state their exam length or whether they need a report. Earning the eCPPT also renews an eJPT, because it is a more advanced INE certification in the same path.
If an employer asks for the CEH instead, our CEH page covers that exam's cost and renewal.
eJPT review: what posters ask on Reddit
In the Reddit posts we collected, the eJPT questions were about where it fits next to other certificates, not about the exam itself. Each question below came from one post, so read them as examples, not a poll.
- One poster asked whether the CEH would help with an entry-level job, or whether Security+, PNPT, eJPT or the CCNA (Cisco's networking certification) would be a better use of money (r/SecurityCareerAdvice). Our answer: of these, we count only the CEH and the eJPT in penetration-tester ads, and in October 2026 they appeared in 66 and 3 of the 217 US ads (Adzuna). The comparison tables show price and format.
- A post on r/oscp asked whether the eJPT and PT1 were good building blocks toward the OSCP (r/oscp). Our answer: both are 48-hour hands-on certification exams at a lower price than the OSCP; PT1 adds a report, which the OSCP also requires.
- One commenter asked which of Security+, eJPT, PNPT, CPTS or PortSwigger's web-security certifications were worth doing (r/cybersecurity). We have no facts on PortSwigger; the others are in the comparison tables.
- Another poster wanted to know if certificates such as the eJPT were worth it in India (r/SecurityCareerAdvice). See the India cost note; our India sample is too small for advice.
- One student asked which of OSCP, eJPT, PNPT or CRTP (another hands-on certificate we have not checked) was respected compared with the CEH, and when to attempt one (r/cybersecurity). Our answer: the eJPT is designed for beginners, so a student can take it; the OSCP is the one to plan for if you want penetration-tester jobs.
- A post on r/cybersecurity weighed studying for a certification such as the eJPT against continuing with VDPs and bug bounties (r/cybersecurity). A VDP (vulnerability disclosure program) invites outsiders to report security flaws; a bug bounty pays for them. Our data does not compare the two paths for hiring.
What should you do first?
Start this week with networking basics: how an IP address, a port and DNS (the system that turns site names into addresses) work. INE expects "a basic understanding of networks" before the exam. Then open INE's eJPT page, read the four exam domains, and check off the ones you could explain to a friend.
If you are new to IT, the eJPT is not your first certificate. With no target job yet, read our cybersecurity roadmap, which lays out the entry routes, and the Security+ page for a first certificate with no required experience. Once you choose penetration testing, buy the Fundamentals year only when you can study for it and take the exam before its voucher expires; the exam-dates paragraph explains the limits.

Questions people ask
Is eJPT worth it for a first cybersecurity job?
As practice, yes. As a credential named in job ads, compare the eJPT and OSCP counts below. The eJPT (Junior Penetration Tester) is the entry-level hands-on hacking exam from INE, a security training company. In October 2026, it appeared in 3 of the 217 US penetration-tester ads on Adzuna, a job-ad search site; a penetration tester is paid to break into an organization's systems with permission. The OSCP (OffSec Certified Professional, a 24-hour hands-on exam) appeared in 158 of the same ads. If you pay for it yourself, treat the eJPT as a study checkpoint on the way to the OSCP.
Is INE's eJPT worth it if you must buy a subscription too?
It can be, if you use the training. INE, a security training company, requires both a subscription (paid access to its training library) and an exam voucher (a prepaid code for one exam attempt) for the eJPT. Its Fundamentals plan costs $349 a year and includes a free eJPT voucher, so you do not need the $250 voucher on top. INE's checkout, read on October 7, 2026, also sells a $299 bundle with three months of Fundamentals. That bundle auto-upgrades to Premium (INE's plan with its entire content library) for $350 after three months, then $799 a year from the purchase date, unless you stop the renewal in time.
How much does the eJPT exam cost?
INE, the training firm behind the eJPT, listed the eJPT exam voucher (a prepaid code for one attempt, with one free retake) at $250 at its checkout on October 7, 2026, and it requires a subscription as well. The Fundamentals subscription at $349 a year already includes the voucher. A $299 bundle gives the voucher plus three months of Fundamentals, then renews as Premium (INE's plan with its entire content library) at $350 after three months and $799 a year after that. Keeping the eJPT after its three years of validity costs $99 plus tax, or no renewal fee if you renew by passing the latest exam version.
Is the eJPT certification free?
No. INE, the security training company behind the eJPT, charges for it: the exam voucher (a prepaid code for one attempt) costs $250, and INE requires a subscription (paid access to its training library), according to its checkout on October 7, 2026. The INE Fundamentals plan, at $349 a year, includes one eJPT voucher, which INE labels free because it comes with the plan. We found no free INE tier that covers the eJPT exam.
Is eJPT worth it, according to Reddit?
The Reddit posts we collected about the eJPT asked where it fits, not whether it is good. One poster asked whether the eJPT and TryHackMe's PT1 (a 48-hour hands-on exam from the training site TryHackMe) were good building blocks toward the OSCP (OffSec's harder hands-on exam); another asked whether the eJPT was worth it in India. Each question came from a single post, so they show what people ask, not a majority view. In our Adzuna count for October 2026, the eJPT appeared in 3 of the 217 US penetration-tester ads; a penetration tester is paid to break into an organization's systems with permission.
How hard is the eJPT exam?
INE, which sells cybersecurity training, designs the eJPT for people with little to no cybersecurity experience. INE's eJPTv2 launch blog of November 28, 2022, gives 48 hours for 35 questions in a browser-based exam, and you need a 70% total score plus a minimum score in each exam section. A March 2023 INE blog says the exam mixes multiple-choice questions and hands-on labs (practice machines you attack online). We found no pass rate on INE's pages. If you fail, one free retake is included; it must be completed within 14 days and before the voucher (a prepaid exam code) runs out (INE says regular vouchers expire 180 days after purchase).
Is there an eJPT exam walkthrough with the real questions?
We do not publish real eJPT questions or answers. Two blogs from the training firm INE describe exam day: a 48-hour, open-book exam (you can use your notes) with 35 questions that mix multiple-choice questions and hands-on labs in your browser. INE's eJPT page says results are auto-graded within hours, with a score for each section, and one free retake within 14 days is included if you fail. The four exam domains (topic areas) INE lists, led by host and network penetration testing at 35%, are what to practice.
Does the eJPT certification expire?
Yes. INE, a security training company, says the eJPT is valid for three years from the date it is awarded. To renew, you earn 36 CPE credits (continuing professional education; INE counts 45 minutes of its training as one credit), earn a more advanced INE certification in the same path, or pass the latest version of the exam. The renewal fee is $99 plus tax for each three-year period, with no fee if you renew by passing the latest version (INE's renewal rules as of October 7, 2026).
Should I take the eJPT or the OSCP first?
The eJPT first, if you are new to penetration testing (authorized, paid hacking of an organization's systems) and want a lower-priced hands-on certification exam. The OSCP, OffSec's 24-hour hands-on exam with a written report, costs $1,699 for the standalone exam (OffSec calls it OSCP+), while the Fundamentals plan from INE, a cybersecurity training firm, costs $349 a year with an eJPT voucher (a prepaid exam code). Of the 217 US penetration-tester ads we counted on Adzuna in October 2026, the OSCP appeared in 158 and the eJPT in 3, so the OSCP is the longer-term target if you want that job.
What is the eJPT salary?
We found no salary figure for eJPT holders from INE or from any source we could verify, so we give none. What we can show is demand: in October 2026, the eJPT, INE's entry-level hacking exam, appeared in 3 of the 217 US penetration-tester ads on Adzuna, a job-ad search site. A penetration tester is paid to break into an organization's systems with permission.
